We, at the Action Committee for International Mikoshi Festival
of Jiyugaoka, are newly having our Festival this year. The Festival has been
postponed due to the corona disaster that hit the world including Japan but
will be held for the first time in four years thanks to the efforts of those
involved.
Conflicts and divisions are reported in various parts of the world.
Now is the time for us to play a friendship with everyone from all over the
world through goodwill, cultural exchange, and international goodwill. We
consider it very meaningful.
In the previous Festival, 45 participants from 16 countries
shouldered the Mikoshi.
We will wear original “Hanten” or Japanese jackets, aa well as
specially made “Tenugui” or Japanese head towels. This will be a great
chance for foreigners to experience a traditional Japanese occasion and to make friends with people in Jiyugaoka.
Requirements for application: 14 years of age or above, and Japanese, Chinese, French or English speaking ability.
Japanese will attend with a non-Japanese friend(s). All nationalities are welcome.
After having faxed the application form, you will get a participation card. On the day of the event, please bring the participation
card. At the end of Mikoshi carrying, we’ll give you a “Tenugui”. Contrarily, original “Hanten” jackets will be only provided for
the day. It is preferable to wear a pair of sneakers and white shorts & pants or similar. At the end of Mikoshi carrying, please
bring with you Jiyugaoka famous sweets as a event participation souvenir. Original “Hanten” jackets will be collected before
your leaving.
